“Decade of Uncertainty.”

Jan 1, 2000 to December 31, 2009 should be called the “Decade of Uncertainty.” During the decade, there were many unexpected events that occurred such as the 2000 Presidential election which required the U.S. Supreme Court to decide the outcome, the terrorist attacks on our country during 9/11, the betrayal of the President of the U.S., the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the world economic crisis, and the loss of America’s standing as the world leader.

During the first decade of the 21st century, we witnessed sports heroes like Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, and Michael Vick betray our trust, illiteracy and violence among our youth skyrocketed out of control, “Hurricane Katrina,” the collapse of our infrastructure, genocide and corruption in Africa, the demise of the auto industry and the “bailout” that has not benefitted the poor, the working poor, or middle class Americans.

The Decade of Uncertainty did, however, bring the historical 2008 Presidential campaign where we witnessed the election of the first African American as President of the United States and with it, the chance to call the second decade of the 21st century-- “A Decade of Hope.” The election of Barack Obama showed the world that Americans plan to retake their reputation as a world leader by electing a man who can lead us back to our previous greatness and move ahead to future triumphs. This election has proven America to be a country united during a crisis in spite of diversity of race, religion, or political beliefs. The fact that a man who is a “minority” in our country could be so loved, cherished, and supported by the “majority” of people is the greatest show of “hope” for the start of the new decade.

Happy New Year.

It can only be a "Decade of Uncertainty" if there is a lack of clarity on the events that took place. America has intentionally diverted Americans from the realities imposed upon them by the "one and only"....America. I am not suprised that the residue of uncertainty continues to linger in the air; after all it is by design. America wants Americans to believe that images of people that do not look like those on our currency stand against America, yet when you look at the true hate crimes in and against America, it is not the ones Americans have been convinced to wage war against that they should be concerned about. There have been no more news reports about the individual whose car allegedly was broken into while it was parked on a Pennsylvania shopping mall lot, and had removed from it several sub-machine guns that were just purchased from a gun show. Now had this happened down 22nd and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, Homeland Security would still be going house to house searching for these weapons of mass destruction down at 3rd and Mifflin Streets and even up to 72nd and Ogontz Avenues. People pay to see balls hit out of the park, runners resembling Achilles, and herculeic figures; so performance enhancers have a place in the market.....that's what America wants. If Americans can spend their time focusing on meaningless matters such as Sosa, McGuire, and Vick, than how can they see that they are about to be blind-sided by another of America's delusional episodes, which methodically creates an illusion for Americans. Americans have always sought to promote change, but it has always been the naysayers who silenced those folks by labeling them as troublemakers and ostracizing them from the "good ol' boys club". How many non-blacks sought to put an end to slavery? How many were able to do so in the forefront? How many became part of the underground efforts? Yes, hate will always exist, but America, in all its arrogance could not slip this punch to its mid-section. A fight is more easily won with combination punches; one to the ribs and and one to the head. When one is hard headed you have to stop defeating yourself by hitting it in the head, because you become hard headed too. America has taken a lot of body shots, now it has no guts. Look at the desperation the republicans displayed with their most recent presidential and vice presidential candidates. Hell Anthony, we could have beat the two of them in any primary. Americans have risen to the occassion because it has found a way to remove the ugly head. There are "blackheads" and "whiteheads", both present a blemished appearance. When you present as a head the picture is clear. Americans can now stay the course and put to task all of its elected officals, by telling America what they are going to do for its people, no longer asking America what can it do for them. Americans have served their country since forever, it is time for America to serve its people. As far as the classes of people, there are none. "Class" is just one more of those illusions that one is better than the other. Is that not the same thing Satan presented when told to bow down to Adam? He replied "Why should I bow down to him, I am made from fire and he is fashioned from clay." My uncertainty is with those Blacks who believe that our beloved president elect will make things better for Blacks. It is that uncertainty that spans beyond a decade. If Obama never enters the White House, his job has been done, he is the President of the United States of America!
